Oh I am deadly serious! I was not aware that a sack intended to contain balls was in some way copyright infringing.
Unless they are assuming it means *******, which is silly. If I wanted to be called Flappy McScrotum then I would have called myself that. But even assuming they did think I mean *******, how is that wrong?
Its not that big of an issue really, but dont understand why my names were deemed wrong in some way whereas "Long Arm" or "All Seeing Eye" or "Richard Head" or such are deemed ok... Or at least I assume they would be deemed ok, dont actually have chars named that,
Are you not allowed to have a bodypart in your name? Not that a ball sack is a body part of course.
Its not like I had a name such as "XYZ all [insert ethnic group here]" or something along those lines...
I am genuinely confused. |

And you're absolutely right, it can apply to any name and will be interpreted as needed. It's CCP's game, so CCP makes the rules. If you don't like it, then go play something else. I've been playing EVE and working with CCP's rules for nearly 9 years now, they've always been fair, but they expect you to be an adult. Vulgarity won't be tolerated and I appreciate that as a player. I don't want to see 'Flappy McScrotum' or any other such adolescent garbage when I'm playing, and if my nephew walks in the room I certainly don't want him seeing it either.

Your okay with showing your nephew butchery and killing, but offhand references to bodyparts that everyone either has or will come into contact with in thier lives is wrong in some way...

As for your second part, that may well be true in the US (I assume you are from the US, you do have some bizzare attitudes towards the whole thing over there) but not in Europe. For most European people mentioning genitalia or sex is fine, as long as you arent actually waving it around.
And yes, I was surprised to have them revoked. I had assumed if they were not allowed, I would not have been allowed to have them. There is no message saying you cannot and autocensors arent exactly unheard of (the forum for instance having one).
And finally. You havent taken offense at the "okay" names I mentioned in my OP, and they are all ***** related puns/references. Why take offense at Ballsack but not "*****" "Bell-end/Urethal opening" and "**** Head", which are what those names meant. (wonder if the autocensor will ** out those "translations"... |

Soo, you allow your nephew to stare at the top right of the screen eh..? Or are you saying that I would kill so rapidly that I would be on the kill feed constantly? Furthermore why not pause it using the PS button, which achieves the same thing but also covers the feed with the clock?
As an aside, have you or your sibling fitted your nephew with a chasity belt, in order to prevent him from being exposed to the fact he is a human with genitalia until whatever time is deemed right? I dont understand you Americans...

Actually they arent in any way. As I pointed out earlier the only clear part is that you cannot have a name which infringes copyright or allows you to pose as someone else. The rest says that "Any and all names are inappropriate!". Now of course that is so that CCP have free reign to delete any name they want, but it isnt clear, and doesnt give any guidelines as to what is okay and what isnt.
That is a large part of the issue, as well as the bizzareness of what is okay and what isnt. Play dust right now and you will see a multitude of racist and or insulting names. Why are people called "XYZ all [insert ethnic group here]" (not going to put the actual names, you understand) ok whereas this isnt? What defines offensiveness...
Further more, being censored for no good reason is just as offensive as any random name, moreso even. Or at least it potentially is. Of course however, I am still flabberghasted that offensive names are an issue at all in a game depicting mass slaughter... What on earth... I dont know whether that is funny or sad.
I am pretty sure EvE autodetects invalid names... Though I havent created a char in so long I dont really know. I know "offensively" named chars are fairly universally tolerated on there however.
As an addendum, do you find the Dust Dev CMDR Wang to be offensive? His name is no different from any of those I posted that you claimed are... Does his own name violate his own rules? Whatever will happen... |
